Pro-Ukrainian Christians confronted supporters of the Moscow Patriarchate in a chaotic scene that lasted more than six hours and resulted in physical confrontations with sticks, stones and chairs, The US Sun reported.

Several people were injured in the clashes at St. Michael's Cathedral and were immediately taken in for treatment by medical professionals.

Representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) reportedly forced their way through the entrance gates of St. Michael's Cathedral and used tear gas against a gathering of supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).

According to the Times, Father Nazari Zasansky, a military chaplain, condemned the Moscow-allied church as a “tool of the Russian security services” and accused it of undermining Ukrainian morale and promoting propaganda.

The situation escalated when Metropolitan Feodosiy, a Moscow Church leader, arrived at the scene amid the chaos. He is accused of inciting interreligious conflicts and subversive activities against Ukraine. Cherkasy Mayor Anatoly Bondarenko stimulated public dialogue about the presence of the Moscow Church in the city.

Father Nazarii stressed the need for Kiev to secure control of the cathedral, claiming that the Russian Orthodox Church misrepresents itself as a Ukrainian entity while not supporting the Ukrainian army. The region's governor, Igor Taburets, said law enforcement authorities were investigating the incident and expressed support for Ukraine's claim to the holy site.
