Vacherie man arrested in connection with Lutcher double shooting

LUTCHER, La. (WVUE) – Authorities have arrested a 28-year-old Vacherie man in connection with a fatal double shooting earlier this month in Lutcher, police said.

Kendrick Kendall Armant is charged with criminal conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in which one man was killed and another was injured.

The shooting occurred in the 2100 block of Highway 44 around 8:40 p.m. on October 15. According to the St. James Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies were first called to the scene following reports of a male gunshot victim being transported to a location Hospital.

Moments later, a second shooting victim was discovered in the same area.

The first victim, 19-year-old Makhai Ramon Martin of Lutcher, was found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers began first aid and Martin was taken to a hospital. He later died from his injuries.

A second 19-year-old man from Lutcher was also injured in the shooting. Details of his condition were not immediately released.

Authorities located a suspicious vehicle – a silver Nissan Altima – on the west bank of the Veterans Memorial Bridge. The car was damaged by gunfire and witnesses reported that four people fled the scene on foot.

Deputies from the St. James and St. John Parish Sheriff's Offices searched the area at the time but were unable to locate the suspects.

After an investigation, investigators secured enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for Armant.

He was arrested Oct. 24 and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Authorities are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to additional arrests.
