Five Terps on NBA rosters to start the season

Five former Maryland men's basketball standouts will begin the 2024-25 NBA season on Wednesday night along with the majority of the league. Read below for updates on each and Click here to see this week's full NBA schedule and find out how you can get involved!

BRUNO FERNANDO – TORONTO RAPTORS

Wednesday, October 23 – vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
Friday, October 25th – vs. Philadelphia 76ers
Saturday, October 26th – at the Minnesota Timberwolves

Fernando moved to the Raptors before the 2024 season. Fernando finished the 2023-24 season with the Atlanta Hawks averaging 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds. Fernando played 45 games for the Hawks a season ago and also started twice this season.

KEVIN HUERTER / ALEX LEN – SACRAMENTO KINGS

Thursday, October 24th – vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
Saturday, October 26th – at the Los Angeles Lakers

Huerter is entering his third season as a member of the Sacramento Kings. Last season, Huerter averaged 10.2 points per game with 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Huerter shot 44.3 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from beyond the arc last season. Huerter played 64 games for Sacramento during the 2023-24 season and also made 59 starts.

Len finished his 11th NBA season last year, averaging 2.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 48 games. Len had a field goal percentage of 61.7 in the 2023-24 season, the highest of his career and his highest field goal percentage since the 2020-21 season.

 

JALEN SMITH-CHICAGO BULLS

Wednesday, October 23 – at New Orleans Pelicans
Friday, October 25th – at Milwaukee Bucks
Saturday, October 26 – vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Smith was a key figure for Indiana in his fifth NBA season, where he averaged 9.9 points per game and 5.5 rebounds. Smith shot a career-high 42.4% from the three-point line while also shooting a career-high 59.2% field goal percentage. Smith is entering his first season with the Bulls after joining them in free agency in the offseason.

AARON WIGGINS-OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER

Thursday, October 24th – at Denver Nuggets
Saturday, October 26th – at the Chicago Bulls
Sunday, October 27 – vs. Atlanta Hawks

Wiggins played a career-high 78 games for the Thunder in his third NBA season. He averaged 6.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game. Wiggins also played a prominent role for the Thunder in the postseason, playing in all ten playoff games last season. Wiggins averaged 6.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in the postseason for the Thunder.
