An Irmo High School student is facing charges and accused of making threats against students on social media

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) – An Irmo High School student has been charged after he was accused of making threats against others at the school on social media.

The Lexington County Sheriff's Department said the student, whose name was not released because he was under 18, was accused Tuesday of posting a threatening message in a group chat on social media.

The student was charged the next day with making threats at school.

“The school administration and law enforcement response to this threat represents comprehensive coordination and a functioning system,” said Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon. “Thank you to the FBI for receiving the initial threat report and working with us at LCSD. We are glad that everyone remained safe and there were never any disturbances or interruptions on campus.”

The student was released into the custody of his mother and will appear in Lexington County Family Court at a later date.
