Where is former Dannemora prison employee Joyce Mitchell?

“Escape at Dannemora,” an eight-part Showtime drama originally released in 2018 and now streaming on Netflix, is based on the true story of two men who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility with the help of prison employee Joyce Mitchell.

David Sweat was serving a life sentence for the 2002 killing of Broome County Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Tarsia when he and Richard Matt, also serving a sentence at the same prison, launched an escape that sparked a three-week manhunt.

The escape was aided by prison employee Joyce Mitchell, who secretly obtained supplies for the prisoners, including lighted goggles and hacksaw blades.

Patricia Arquette, who plays Joyce Mitchell in the series, won the 2019 Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards for her performance.

Where is Joyce Mitchell now?

Mitchell pleaded guilty to her role in the escape and was sentenced to up to seven years in prison in September 2015.

Mitchell, then 51, was sent to Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in Westchester County to serve her sentence. She was denied parole three times, twice in 2017 and once in 2019.

According to New York State Department of Corrections records, Mitchell was paroled in February 2020 after serving four years and five months in prison. Due to her probation conditions, she would remain under supervision until June 2022.
