Charges filed against suspect in fatal shooting of Garfield Heights viral father

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Garfield Heights viral father is scheduled to be arraigned in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Friday morning.

A Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted the man, Waunyae Arrington, 29, accused of Thursday's fatal shooting.

Arrington was arrested Oct. 15 in Columbus.

Arrington was charged with aggravated murder, murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon while under disability for the murder of Jose Ervin Jr.

According to Garfield Heights police, Ervin was killed after an argument with Arrington around 2:45 a.m. Oct. 4 near Turney and McCracken streets.

Ervin was taken to Marymount Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Ervin is survived by his pregnant wife and twin boys, whom he loved dearly.

“Now, just over a year and several changes later, you are covering up his death, his murder for no reason,” Ervin’s sister said at a vigil days after his death.
