Michigan youth pastor and Christian rock singer charged with child sexual assault

AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A man who worked as a youth pastor at a Michigan church while also performing as a Christian rock singer has been arrested after being accused of sexual misconduct with children.

Zachary Radcliff, 29, who worked at Oakwood Church and is the son of senior pastor Frank Radcliff, is charged with criminal sexual misconduct, two counts of aggravated sexual battery against children, two counts of sexual battery against children and five counts of sexual battery According to a news release from Michigan State Police, a computer/internet was used to commit a crime and in one case a computer was used to commit a crime. All charges are felonies.

The investigation into Zachary Radcliff began on October 2, when police were told he had requested “sexually abusive material from a minor.” Authorities searched both Radcliff's office and home and say they have identified several victims.

According to police, investigators believe that the abuse began in 2011 and affected children between the ages of 12 and 17. The investigation is ongoing and police are encouraging other possible victims to come forward.

Police say Oakwood Church is cooperating with the investigation. According to a statement from the church, Radcliff was suspended with pay on Oct. 3 and fired on Oct. 12 when more information became available.

“The information we received was shocking,” the statement said. “We were told that Zachary had requested inappropriate photos and possibly videos from teenagers. We heard other stories too.

“This information tore our hearts apart. The safety and protection of the people in our church are our top priority. We are committed to doing all we can to care for the victims of these crimes.”

The church says it is offering counseling to both children and parents affected by the reported incidents.

“Like you, our hearts are broken,” the statement said. “We desire to serve our Master in this community with the understanding that the church family should be one of the safest places in which we can engage. Some of that trust has been broken. “Our goal is to be fully transparent and do what we can to assist with this investigation.”

NBC News reports that Radcliff performed as a musician at the 2019 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). He was reportedly a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump and posted a video on YouTube of himself performing “I'll Stand” as part of the rally at Liberty University in November 2019.

Radcliff is scheduled to appear in court next Thursday in Washtenaw County.
