Anderson Cooper and Charlamagne tha God argue on air over CNN Trump coverage

Anderson Cooper and Charlamagne Tha God got into an argument on Anderson Cooper's CNN show when Charlamagne criticized news networks like CNN for focusing less on Donald Trump being a fascist and more on issues related to Kamala Harris focused on things like whether or not she is black, a lie claim that Trump has touted in several places. Cooper called Charlamagne's observation “bullshit,” which led to a back-and-forth between the host and his interviewee.

“It's crazy because there are still no news channels that are having this discussion. For example, if someone says, if someone questions Kamala Harris' 'Blackness' or whether she is a DEI worker, you will have all the panels about it and ask that question. “How come we don't do a panel with the question whether Donald Trump is a fascist? “Actually, he doesn't even ask, he just says,” Charlamagne asked the CNN anchor. “How come this isn’t the topic of discussion every day on networks like CNN?”

Cooper responded by saying, “I talk about it every night,” but Charlamagne didn't believe that, telling the host, “I don't think y'all have enough conversations about it.” I feel like I'm talking about it more on this network Kamala Harris Black than about Donald Trump being a fascist.”

“Honestly, that’s nonsense,” Cooper replied. “I'm sorry. I'm a fan of yours, but saying we sit here and argue is Kamala Harris Black…”

Charlamagne stressed that he had seen discussions taking place, adding: “I have often seen discussion panels. That's bullshit, Anderson.” While Anderson acknowledged that some “crazy” interview guests might be talking about Harris' Blackness on a CNN panel, he argued that the network's job is to have “a legitimate conversation” with “diverse viewpoints “to lead.

“I think no broadcaster has honest conversations about Donald Trump. “Nobody has had an honest conversation about Donald Trump since 2016,” Charlamagne responded. “I saw last night that they were talking about the double standards that exist between Donald Trump and the vice president, but it's always a double standard with Trump, whether it's Hillary, whether it's, you know, against Biden.” Now we’re talking to Kamala about how he’s a threat to democracy, but we’re not treating him like one.”

Cooper responded, “I don't know what you saw, but I don't know if there are Trump supporters out there or people who like him who tune in to me every night to try to validate their opinion.” replied Cooper. “Let me just say that there is no one on the planet who hasn’t heard and seen pretty much everything Donald Trump has said.”

Charlamagne disagreed, arguing, “I 100% believe enough people haven't heard his rhetoric.”

“That's debatable, but I believe in asking questions and probing people's arguments and trying to uncover people's arguments about what's true and what's not,” Cooper later told his guest. “And I’m not on MSNBC for a reason. There's a reason I'm not on another network. I'm on CNN because I want to talk to Republicans, I want to talk to Democrats and I want to learn from them. I don't think I have the answers. I'm willing to change my mind. People can convince me of things all the time. I don’t even know why I’m talking about myself.”

Earlier in the interview, Charlamagne encouraged Harris to continue calling Trump “fascist” during the campaign and encouraged Americans to continue to engage with Donald Trump's fascist rhetoric, whether Trump wants to put people in camps or touts mass deportations or about the “Termination” Speaks The Constitution prohibits overturning the results of an election.”

While Charlamagne did not fully support the Democratic Party when Joe Biden was running for president, he has since thrown his full weight behind the party in support of Kamala Harris' campaign.
