Nicole Scherzinger texted Liam Payne the day he died

Nicole Scherzinger was still in touch with the late One Direction star, Liam Payneloudly until the day he died Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The 76-year-old composer who wrote the music for the Broadway production Sunset Blvd. which stars Scherzinger, 46, made the comments in a billboard Interview published on Thursday, October 24th.

“I suppose something that wasn't said, and I guess I could say, is that of course she mentored Liam from One Direction,” Lloyd Webber said of The Pussycat Dolls star. “On Wednesday when he died, she texted him that day.”

After learning the tragic news of Payne's death, Scherzinger managed to keep her commitment to play Norma Desmond Sunset Blvd. that same night.

“She had just found out he had died and the fact that she even did the show is extraordinary. I mean, she's an incredible, amazing woman,” Lloyd Webber told the outlet. “She is without question one of the best artists I have ever worked with.”

Scherzinger first met Payne when he auditioned as a teenager The X Factor Britain in 2010, where the singer was working as a judge at the time. She supported him from the start.

Most recently, Payne and Scherzinger worked together as judges on a new talent competition series for Netflix Building the band. Destiny's Child star Kelly Rowland was a co-judge on the reality show during The Backstreet Boys AJ McLean was host. Although Netflix greenlit the series in May and filming wrapped in August, it is unclear whether it will still air following Payne's death.

Us weekly confirmed on Wednesday, October 16, that Payne died at age 31 after falling from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An autopsy report received from Us revealed that the musician died from “multiple traumas” with “internal and external bleeding.”

Payne became famous for the British version of The X Factoron which he and bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan And Louis Tomlinson were formed into One Direction. A year after Malik left the band in 2015, the group went on an indefinite hiatus.

“We have been completely devastated by the news of Liam’s death,” the group’s remaining members wrote in a joint Instagram statement on Thursday, October 17, before each member shared their own personal tribute.

“The memories we shared with him will be remembered forever,” her message continued. “At the moment our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you, Liam. Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry.”
