The latest from Brianna Ghey: Investigating trans teen's murder to investigate killer Scarlett Jenkinson's school transfer

Brianna Ghey's mother makes a heartbreaking request at her daughter's vigil

The inquest into the death of murdered trans teenager Brianna Ghey begins today and is set to investigate the transfer of one of her killers to her school.

The 16-year-old was stabbed in February 2023 in a “frenzied” and “sadistic” knife attack planned by his schoolmate Scarlett Jenkinson and her boyfriend Eddie Ratcliffe.

Both were only 15 years old at the time of the incident and were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, with Jenkinson receiving a minimum sentence of 22 years before parole and Ratcliffe receiving a 20 year sentence.

The inquest will examine whether Jenkinson should have been placed with vulnerable Brianna following the young killer's “managed transfer” from Culcheth High School to Birchwood High School following a cannabis-related incident.

The three-day inquest into Brianna's death will run from Wednesday to Friday at Cheshire Coroner's Court in Warrington.

In conversation with The Independent Previously, Brianna's mother Esther Ghey described her daughter as “absolutely fearless, joyful, happy, unique and special.”

The teenager was stabbed 28 times in the head, neck, chest and back with a hunting knife on the afternoon of February 11 last year after being lured to Linear Park in Culcheth, a village near Warrington, Cheshire.

Manchester Crown Court heard Jenkinson “enjoyed” the murder.

Her accomplice Ratcliffe also expressed transphobia towards his victim, Judge Yip ruled when announcing the verdict in February this year.
