Olivia Munn has been praised for showing off mastectomy scars after surviving breast cancer

Olivia Munn received widespread praise after proudly showing off her mastectomy scar in a campaign for Kim Kardashian's brand Skims.

In March, the actress shared on Instagram that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2023 and underwent a double mastectomy. “I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she captioned her post. “I hope that sharing this information helps others find comfort, inspiration and support in their own journey.”

Munn, who recently welcomed her second child with John Mulaney, has now fronted Skims' latest bra campaign alongside breast cancer charity Susan G. Koeman.

In the photos Kardashian shared on Instagram, Munn's scar is clearly visible on her breasts in at least two images.

In her own post about the campaign, Munn went into detail about why she decided to share her scar and what it meant to her to raise breast cancer awareness.

The 44-year-old wrote: “In the middle of this latest @SKIMS campaign shoot I decided I didn't need to be self conscious about my mastectomy scars anymore. Every mark that life has left in my body is proof of how hard I fought. I hope other women who are aware of their scars see these photos and feel all the love I send.”

She added: “It is truly meaningful to be part of an initiative that supports research and helps countless people affected by breast cancer.”

The pictures have received millions of likes on Instagram and Munn is being showered with praise for bearing her scars. Actress and comedian Zashia Santiago wrote, “Seeing a woman with scars like mine is just…”Thank you.”

WWE Hall of Famer Stacy Keibler added: “Beautiful Olivia.”

One fan said: “I LOVE that she wears her scar loud and proud. I love the transparency. For this. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.”

Another remarked: “So proud of her courage to display her scar publicly. What an incredible woman.”

“Guys she had BREAST CANCER and I personally think it's nice to show the scars as they represent her story and her courage,” said a third fan.

After Shannen Doherty's death in July, Munn opened up about how she bonded with the family Charmed Actor opens up about her experience with breast cancer in sweet tribute.

“I am absolutely heartbroken over the passing of Shannen Doherty,” she wrote in her tribute to the star, which included a photo of the late actor from the '90s.

“When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, I remembered how she bravely allowed the world to enter her journey and cared for her. We became friends straight away – which I honestly couldn't understand at times because of how I watched them 90210 was everything to me when I was 10.”

After acknowledging that their friendship had grown stronger over time, The gate Star shared the meaningful message Doherty previously sent her.

“We bonded over a shared struggle and a desire to help other women,” Munn continued. “Looking back at the last text message she sent me a few months ago, she asked me how I was doing and if there was anything she could do for me… True to form, Shannen offered her support even though she was struggling “It was the final phase in the fight against this terrible disease.”

She then expressed that “cancer is really fucking scary” before praising it 90210 Stern for facing the illness with “such dignity, strength and grace.” She ended her message with a round of applause from an important person in Doherty's life, her mother, Rosa Elizabeth Doherty.

“Sending all my love to my mother, who has been her best friend, hero and champion every step of the way,” Munn wrote.

“Fly so high, my friend.”
