Man accused of stabbing elementary school principal to death will be extradited to Ohio

A Huntington man accused of stabbing the principal of South Point Elementary School will be extradited to Lawrence County, Ohio.

Joshua Collins, 43, appeared in Cabell County District Court Friday morning where work was being completed to have him extradited back to Lawrence County, where the alleged crime occurred.

Collins is charged there with aggravated assault and attempted murder after investigators said he stabbed elementary school principal Bill Christian in the neck and torso over a custody issue.

Officers said Christian tried to escape from Collins by locking himself in a back office, but Collins then smashed the room's glass before chasing Christian through several parts of the office and into the cafeteria.

Christian was treated at the scene by a school nurse before being taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington. No information was given about his current condition.

Collins was arrested by Huntington police on a warrant and also taken to St. Mary's Thursday with cuts from broken glass.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office said additional charges are expected to be filed against Collins.
