Two Chennai students hospitalized after gas leak | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Two girls are studying Victory Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai Tiruvottiyur were taken to hospital after a suspected chemical exposure Gas leak on Friday. The source of the leak has not yet been identified, officials said.
About 30 students fainted after a strong chemical smell filled the campus. Around 40 students complaining of eye irritation were taken to Tiruvottiyur Govt Hospital.
The incident caused a stir among parents who rushed to the school to bring their children home.

“We conducted basic tests including X-rays, CT scans, pulmonary function tests and blood tests, all of which were normal,” the doctor said. The students were stabilized and moved to a ward for observation until Saturday morning.
S. Kannapan, director of the school education department, said they were trying to ascertain the source of the leak. They were investigating whether the leak came from the school's chemistry lab or from nearby industrial facilities or another source.
Palaniswamy A, principal of private schools, said top education officials and district education officials have been directed to inspect the campus to ascertain the origin of the leak.
