Oregon nursing home sued for patient's murder

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Lucy Garcia's family is suing the nursing home that led to her death, according to the Lucas County coroner.

According to court documents filed Oct. 23, Arbors at Oregon is named in the lawsuit along with its parent company, three medical professionals and their affiliates.

Garcia died on July 2, 2024, after spending years at the facility recovering from a stroke that left her requiring around-the-clock care.

The defendants are charged with medical negligence/recklessness, wrongful death, violation of the rights of nursing home residents, civil conspiracy and fraud.

The lawsuit seeks compensation for Garcia's pain and suffering, as well as punitive and exemplary damages.

Numerous family members of former patients at the facility shared their stories with 13 Action News after Garcia's death was ruled a homicide.
