Woman accused of stealing side by side

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – A Clay County woman is facing charges in connection with an incident in which a side-by-side was reportedly stolen.

Officials with the Clay County Sheriff's Department received a call about the incident on Wednesday.

Police made contact with someone at a home at 345 Stable Hollow Road.

According to an arrest affidavit, Brandy Burns told police she did not see or know of an ATV side-by-side vehicle being stolen.

Police then spoke with a neighbor who told them he may know where the stolen side-by-side was.

The neighbor told police where there was a hiking trail nearby that ran directly behind the house.

Using the companion's vehicle identification number (VIN), police were able to confirm that it was a theft from Hazard.

Burns reportedly told police that she parked the car at the scene and took it from a friend.

Burns was charged with receiving stolen property valued at $10,000 or more.

She was taken to the Clay County Detention Center.
