Elephants: Tragic Incident: Elephants trample 74-year-old farmer to death in Andhra Pradesh |

Vizianagaram: In another incident of Human-animal conflict In Andhra Pradesh, a 74-year-old farmer was trampled to death by a herd Elephants near Peda Bondapalli village, under the limits of Parvathipuram Rural Police Station in Manyam district, on Thursday evening. The deceased has been identified as Devabattula Yacoob. Despite the efforts of elephant handlers to save him, he succumbed to his injuries while being transported to hospital.
Yacoob is the 12th person killed by elephants in the Parvathipuram Manyam region in the last decade. The new incident has sparked fear in Peda Bondapalli and nearby villages. Locals said a herd of seven elephants, including a calf, had been roaming around Peda Bondapalli and surrounding areas for the past few days.
Local police station sub-inspector V Santhoshi said Yacoob was hearing impaired and could not hear the elephants while he was weeding his paddy field. Elephants are usually very protective of newborns in the herd and may have attacked him for this reason, she added. Parvathipuram Manyam DFO GAP Prasuna, local MLA Bonela Vijayachandra and others visited the grieving family on Friday and presented a check of Rs 10 lakh to his family.
