With the election just two weeks away, the Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) is seeing an increase in reported thefts of voter signs, many from private property. These thefts cause concern and frustration for many of our residents.

According to Arizona Revised Statute (ARS) 16-1019, it is a class two misdemeanor for a person to knowingly remove, alter, deface or obscure a political sign of a candidate for public office or in support of or opposition to a ballot measure.

With the increasing number of surveillance cameras in our neighborhoods and business districts, thieves are at risk of being discovered and arrested.

Stealing or defacing election signs, especially on private property, only increases frustration and fuels negative feelings in an already contentious election where emotions are running high on both sides. PVPD urges residents to respect the law and each other. Make your voice heard at the ballot box on November 5th and respect the rights of others.

The Prescott Valley Police Department can be contacted at 928-772-9267 for non-emergencies and 911 for emergencies. Yavapai County Silent Witness can be reached at 1-800-932-3232.
