A shot was fired at West Towne Mall and no injuries were reported

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Police are investigating after someone fired a single shot at West Towne Mall on Friday, Madison police said.

Video footage showed two people standing near a cell phone store when one of them pulled out a gun and shot another person across the hallway, the MPD report said. Police said it was unclear whether the person was injured.

The two people involved ran from the mall and got into a vehicle, MPD said. A description of these two people and their vehicle was not provided.

Officers responded around 11:30 a.m. to the entrance of Sephora and the Cheesecake Factory on Gammon Road.

Police said they did not find anyone with injuries at the mall, nor did anyone go to a local hospital with a gunshot wound.

Detectives from the MPD Violent Crime Unit are investigating and a K-9 unit was called in. MPD said investigators spoke with mall employees and those who saw the shooting. Officers collected digital evidence at the scene.

A JC Penny employee told WMTV 15 News they went into lockdown after hearing the gunshot. Police said the mall was following security protocols when the shots rang out, closing stores and moving customers to secure areas. Many shops will be open again from 1:30 p.m.

MPD said businesses near the mall were also locked down at the time and Vel Phillips Memorial High School was placed under lockdown.
