Person taken into custody in connection with the killing of a soldier at a military base in Missouri

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (KRCG) – Fort Leonard Wood officials said a person of interest has been taken into custody in connection with the death of a sergeant.

Military officials announced on their website that someone was in custody but did not release the person's name.

Authorities announced Thursday that the death of Sgt. Sarah Roque was being investigated for murder.

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Christopher Beck said Roque's body was found in a dumpster on the base near the living quarters for single soldiers.

The commanding general said in a statement that Roque's death had caused “an enormous emptiness” at the army base.

An alert was issued after the 23-year-old was reported missing on Tuesday.

No further information about the person in custody or a possible motive was released Friday.
