Santa Barbara Police are releasing information regarding the incident at La Colina Jr. High – Edhat

Update from the Santa Barbara Police Department
5:00 p.m., October 22, 2024

On October 22, 2024 at 12:13 p.m., Santa Barbara Police responded to a fight at Alta Vista Alternative High School on the La Colina Jr. High Campus (4000 block of Foothill Rd).

Several high school students were involved, and two were seen leaving campus after school staff intervened.

Upon arrival, officers quickly set up a perimeter and the school implemented a “detain protocol” for both campuses.

It should be noted that the Santa Barbara Police Department and Santa Barbara Unified School District work together on school safety protocols and communications throughout the year, which greatly contributed to the quick resolution of the public safety incident.

The juvenile suspects were eventually found nearby in the 700 block of Cieneguitas Road. Santa Barbara City Fire and AMR treated the juvenile victim, who was transported to Cottage Hospital with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.

The primary suspect was arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a knife on school grounds and felony pandering to a criminal street gang.

There was a fight between two male teenagers, one of whom was said to have had a knife and fled the scene. Police issued a BOL for the suspects involved.

Shortly afterwards, the police were able to arrest two suspects. Unclear on the severity of the injuries, but I heard something about a casualty being transported to Cottage ER.
