Man accused of killing his father in Spokane has confessed to the murder to family and friends, court documents say

A 38-year-old man stabbed his father with a kitchen knife in an East Central Spokane apartment and admitted the killing to relatives before being arrested near Interstate 90, where he carried out a standoff, according to law enforcement and the court the SWAT agency and the closure of the highway forced documents.

Damian C. Eiffert was arrested Wednesday and is charged with second-degree murder in the killing of his father, identified in court documents as Robert Eiffert. Court documents did not indicate how old the father was.

Damian Eiffert, wearing bright green Spokane County Jail inmate uniform, made his first appearance Friday in Spokane County District Court, where Judge Andrew Biviano maintained his $2 million bond.

Spokane County Assistant Prosecutor Jonathan Degen told the court Damian Eiffert has eight felony convictions, 10 adult misdemeanor convictions and 40 failures to appear in court. Before his arrest on suspicion of murder, there were two arrest warrants against him, said Degen.

Neighbors found Robert Eiffert lying in the entrance of a residence at 29 S. Thor St. around 2:40 p.m., according to court documents.

A neighbor told police he found Robert Eiffert “cut up,” not breathing and lying in the doorway. Another said he saw Robert Eiffert lying on the porch and Damian Eiffert left the house, jumped over Robert Eiffert's bloody body and drove away in the father's car.

Robert Eiffert died at the residence.

Raeline Eiffert, Damian Eiffert's mother, told police she received a call from her son around 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. She said he appeared “agitated and distraught” during the call, documents say. He told her that he asked his father to take him for treatment, but he didn't take him.

Damian Eiffert told her he couldn't stand his father anymore and stabbed him, the mother told police.

Police said the father was stabbed in the neck, head and chest, court records show.

Investigators searched the home and found a trail of blood from the entrance to the building where Robert Eiffert was found to an armchair in the apartment. According to the documents, police believe the attack began while Robert Eiffert was sitting in the chair.

There was a steak knife on the living room floor in front of the armchair. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were on and around the table in the living room.

Damian Eiffert's ex-girlfriend told police that Damian Eiffert lived with his father on Thor Street. She received a call from Damian Eiffert on his father's phone on Tuesday afternoon, telling her that he was waiting in the alley outside her house.

She met him in the alley and saw him driving his father's car, which confused her because his father never let him drive his car, she told police. She said Damian Eiffert got out of the car, hugged her and said, “I love you… I just killed my father.” Then he got in his car and drove off.

She and Damian Eiffert later met in front of a house in the Bemiss district, where Damian Eiffert parked his father's car. He got into a car with her and her friend and told her again that he had stabbed his father, she told police. She also heard Damian Eiffert, who she said had blood on his hand, telling his friend on the phone that he had killed his father.

Officers went to the Bemiss home on North Altamont Street and found the Nissan Altima that belonged to the father. According to the documents, police discovered what appeared to be blood stains on the driver's seat of the car.

Washington State Patrol troopers found a stolen vehicle that was out of fuel and parked on the side of I-90 around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday. Damian Eiffert was the only person inside and refused to surrender or cooperate, court documents say. A standoff with WSP and the Spokane County Sheriff's Office lasted until about 9:10 a.m

Damian Eiffert tried to escape on foot before being captured.

He told police in an interview room on Thursday that he admitted to being at that father's apartment on Tuesday. Damian Eiffert told police that an argument broke out because his father wanted to drive his friend to Kellogg but didn't want to take him across town for treatment.

Damian Eiffert admitted to smoking methamphetamine and being extremely high while suffering from opioid withdrawal. He wanted a lawyer before answering any more questions.

In a prison interview with KHQ, Damian Eiffert said he could not remember Tuesday's events and did not commit the crime. He said his last clear memory was being attacked by a police K-9 unit and being taken to the hospital with injuries.

He remained in jail Friday and declined an interview with The Spokesman-Review.
