Today in History: What happened on this day – October 25th

“The Charge of the Light Brigade,” one of the most famous blunders in military history, occurred on October 25, 1854, during the Crimean War between Britain and Russia.

Due to misunderstandings, about 600 British cavalrymen attacked head-on against powerful enemy artillery pieces. The Russian response resulted in a bloodbath in which more than 100 of the brave but poorly led troops and their horses were killed.
