Five boys ages 12 to 15 are facing murder charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed a 70-year-old man in St. Petersburg

Five boys ages 12 to 15 are charged with the hit-and-run that killed 70-year-old Edward Webb on Monday, October 21, 2024.

According to investigators, Webb was walking on 9th Avenue South near his home when a stolen Jeep SUV traveling north on 12th Street South turned onto 9th Avenue South and struck him.

The SUV driver fled the scene, but the SUV was later found abandoned a few blocks away.

On Oct. 25, investigators identified the 14-year-old driver of the stolen SUV and four passengers.

Working with the Pinellas Pasco District Attorney's Office, investigators charged the driver with third-degree murder (felony murder), vehicular homicide at the scene of the crime, driving without a license resulting in death and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.

The passengers, ages 12, 13, 14 and 15, are charged with third-degree murder (felony murder) and aggravated motor vehicle theft. Under Florida law, aggravated murder is the killing of another person during the commission or attempted commission of certain crimes, including grand theft of a motor vehicle.

St. Petersburg police have not released the names of the driver and passengers.
