Unknown Galaxy Z Fold variant listed in alleged Samsung 2025 codename leak

A new rumor claims to have discovered the internal codenames for Samsung's 2025 foldable devices.
The company codenamed the Flip 7 “B7,” but the Fold 7 reportedly has two: “Q7” and “Q7M.”
The suffix “M” is unknown; However, recently there were rumors that Samsung is looking to tackle the world's first rollable phone after Huawei's Mate XT Tri-Fold.

Rumors have surfaced about Samsung's alleged codenames for its next wave of foldable devices in 2025.

The codenames were reported by Galaxy Club (Dutch), which claims Samsung is working on a new Flip and two Galaxy Z Fold devices (via SamMobile). According to an unknown source, the publication suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be codenamed “Q7” internally. In addition, the alleged second Fold has the internal name “Q7M”.

While the extra bit in the codename is strange, the publication couldn't elaborate on what it might mean.

Elsewhere, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 2025 is rumored to be internally codenamed “B7” by Samsung.

The rumors diverge, suggesting it could be a “dual-folding” Galaxy Z Fold, similar to the tri-folding Mate XT. SamMobile and Galaxy Club highlight a post from ZDNet Korea that says Samsung may be interested in reviving its foldable device market due to a recent slump. Total foldable phone volume (units shipped) is reportedly down 10%; However, rumors suggest that Samsung is aiming for a “recovery” in 2025. This unknown Fold variant could be the key, but that's all speculation.

Interestingly, the rumors of a “dual fold” contradict what we heard in September about Samsung possibly moving towards the idea of a rollable phone. The report reiterated Samsung's original plans to pursue a tri-foldable device, as the company had previously filed the patent for the design in South Korea and the US. Those plans reportedly fell by the wayside and following the debut of the Mate XT, Samsung is looking to launch its own “world first” device.

We have a good idea of what that could look like. Samsung was at CES 2024 and introduced the “Rollable Flex”. This prototype is intended to deliver a screen that is “five times larger” than its standard (rolled) form. The durability of such a device was a hot topic, as such a device would likely have a lot of moving parts literally Roll the screen like a scroll.

Other rumors suggest that this second, unknown Galaxy Z Fold could be a global version. Samsung recently unveiled its Galaxy Z Fold 6 “Slim” in South Korea and it seems unlikely that consumers in the US will see it. Maybe that will change in 2025, but don't hold your breath.
