Man at center of statewide Blue Alert alert arrested in Fort Worth

Seth Michael Altman, the man at the center of the statewide Blue Alert earlier this month, was arrested Friday afternoon in Fort Worth.

Fort Worth police arrested Altman in the 1300 block of East Lancaster Avenue just before 5 p.m., according to an X post from the department. Altman, 33, is accused of shooting and wounding Memphis, Texas, Police Chief Rex Plant while the police chief and another officer were attempting to serve an arrest warrant for burglary.

Early on the morning of Oct. 4, Texans across the state were awakened by a Blue Alert for Altman, who police said had shot Plant and left the scene the night before. After the shooting, Altman was added to the Texas Department of Public Safety's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

Plant was released from the hospital shortly after the shooting, according to television news stations in the Amarillo area.

A blue alert was issued across Texas early this morning for an attack about 280 miles from Dallas

The warning was lifted on October 16, but it remains unclear why authorities lifted the warning.

Memphis is a small city in the Texas Panhandle, southeast of Amarillo and 280 miles from Dallas.

According to Fort Worth police, Friday's arrest occurred without incident. Altman was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on a charge of attempted murder of a peace officer. His bail had not been set as of Friday evening.
