MS Dhoni reacts to viral meme 'Thala for a Reason'

Memes about MS Dhoni's famous jersey number 7 and the phrase 'Thala for a reason' have become very popular on social media. Cricket fans have shared these memes widely.

MS Dhoni, who led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five IPL titles, addressed the meme in a recent video. When asked about the meme, Dhoni said, “I know, but I don’t know the reason behind it. I'm not sure if it's funny, if it's meant to piss me off, just kidding or a meme. But whatever.” I think my fans turned it into something positive for me.

He also spoke about his fans and said, “I have brilliant fans. I don't have to speak up or say anything; they are the ones who speak up when someone questions me. I'll just keep quiet and enjoy it.” “I'm trying to play good cricket and that's what's important to me.”

Under Dhoni's leadership, CSK has won the IPL title five times, equaling Mumbai Indians' record. CSK secured its first title in 2010 and won again in 2011, registering consecutive wins. They continued their success with titles in 2018, 2021 and 2023.

Meanwhile, according to a report in Times of India, MS Dhoni will take part in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have the option to retain him as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore following a retention rule previously reintroduced in 2021. Dhoni has been with CSK since the inception of the IPL in 2008. After undergoing knee surgery last year, he handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of IPL 2024 and played a limited role as a batsman.

“I have to stay fit for nine months to be able to play the two-and-a-half months of IPL. It requires planning but also calm,” Dhoni recently commented. During Dhoni's captaincy, India won all major formats, including the legendary T20 World Cup in South Africa, the ODI World Cup on home soil and rising to the top of the Test rankings. Now Dhoni remains closely associated with the game and often follows matches with one increased feeling of tension on television. “When I was playing, I didn't watch much, but now that I'm not playing international cricket, I watch every game carefully,” Dhoni said.
