Two students moved to the intensive care unit

CHENNAI: Two students who were hospitalized after a suspected gas leak at Victory Matriculation School have been transferred to the intensive care unit at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital.

One had recurrent fainting spells, while the other had difficulty breathing.

Doctors perform tests, including X-rays and EKGs, to determine the cause of their symptoms.

At least 35 students were affected by the suspected gas leak in the chemistry laboratory of Tiruvottiyur School. They suffered from chest pain, abdominal pain, vomiting and difficulty breathing.

Twenty-six unconscious students were initially taken to the Government Urban Community Health Center and two were later referred to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital.

Other students were treated at nearby private hospitals and are currently stable.

The source of the gas leak is still under investigation, but it is believed to have come from a nearby chemical plant.
