Man fights police dog in Portland and gets arrested

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A Portland man got into a fight with a dog and broke into a neighbor's home during a standoff with officers Friday morning.

At approximately 5 a.m., PPB units went to serve a search warrant on a Torrie Bulson-Bratton in the 4500 block of N Maryland Avenue.

Bulson-Bratton was wanted for numerous violent crimes, some of which involved a firearm.

“I woke up to an explosion, a SWAT team and announcements from a megaphone,” said witness Jonah Eller-Isaacs.

A woman in Northeast Portland woke up to a stranger hovering over her, and according to court documents, this isn't the first person this has happened to.

Officials say the “explosion” involved “some bangs from the launchers and other tactical tools used during this event.”

PPB surrounded the building, announced itself over a loudspeaker and ordered residents of Bulson-Bratton's unit to come out. According to police, two people turned themselves in, but the suspect refused.

After evacuating surrounding units, officers used “irritant gas” into the building, but the suspect refused to surrender.

Police said they then sent a K9 to the suspect's apartment and he began “fighting the police dog.”

“He tried to grab the dog and drag him into his apartment,” says Eller-Isaacs.

The officer said: “The dog was recalled by its handler. He was later examined and no injuries were found.”

According to police, after an argument with the dog, the man broke into a neighboring apartment. The officer fired more gasoline.

The suspect came out and was arrested. According to police, paramedics treated the suspect for injuries he sustained from the fight with the dog.

Neighbors say they were not surprised by the heavy police presence outside Bulson-Bratton's home.

One resident, Almond, says: “There are police there at least once a week.”

“I knew there was trouble in this house, there were violent acts of violence on a regular basis,” says Eller-Isaacs.

PPB members confiscated a semi-automatic handgun, two holsters, firearm magazines, a round of ammunition and a cell phone.

Bulson-Bratton was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on the following charges:

First Degree Robbery (2 counts), Second Degree Robbery (2 counts),

Unlawful Use of a Weapon (2 counts), Threatening (2 counts), Felon in Possession of a Firearm (2 counts), First Degree Burglary, Third Degree Escape, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Second Degree Assault and Violation of probation conditions.
