TreeHouse Foods issued a voluntary recall last Friday for its frozen waffle products sold at many retailers in the United States and Canada because the products have been linked to possible listeria contamination.

TreeHouse Foods told USA TODAY that the problem was discovered at one of its manufacturing facilities.

“This issue was discovered through routine testing at our manufacturing facility in Brantford, Ontario, Canada,” Howard Karesh, a spokesman for TreeHouse Foods, said in a statement. “There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury associated with the recalled products.”

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in its recall warning that Listeria monocytogenes “is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems.”
