California Southern Section High School Football Computer Rankings (10/21/2024)

Beginning in Week 5 in the CIF Southern Section of the California high school football season, High school on SI launches its first computer ranking.

No wonder, Mater Dei And St. John Bosco are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. As more games are played and the computer has more data to work with, the teams get higher and lower from week to week.

Here are the latest experts Top 25 placements in the CIF South section from October 21st.

Due to the CIF's implementation of “competitive equity,” computer rankings will be used to determine playoff divisions for all team sports beginning in 2024-25. The idea is based on using a team's current year to determine which division they belong to in the playoffs.

Calpreps.com is the official computer system for football, but SBLive also has its own computer rankings that you need to keep an eye on. Below are the top 10 teams in the Southern Section after Week 8, according to Computer.

The link under the top 10 provides rankings for all teams.

The Monarchs are the defending CIF Southern Section and CIF State Open Division champions and appear to be strong favorites to repeat.

The Braves are young and could be the team to beat in 2025 and 2026.

The Diablos sat in 3rd place all season, licking their lips for a chance of knocking out Bosco or Mater Dei in the Division 1 playoffs. Your chance is coming.

The Lions' computer rankings are higher than where they probably belong, but the team is extremely talented.

The Lancers' only losses come against St. John Bosco and Bishop Gorman.

The Trailblazers are undefeated in the Mission League.

Centennial has won six straight. Husan Longstreet is playing like the 5-star QB we know him to be after getting 100% healthy.

The Friars will be a big problem when Michigan State QB Leo Hannan returns.

Serra is full of talent but lacks depth. We'll see if they can maintain their numbers in the postseason, which is only about 45 varsity players.

The Sentinels are expected to finish the season undefeated.

SBLive's formula was created using the linear algebra-based ranking algorithm inspired by the Colley Bias-Free Ranking method. Colley's method was developed by Wes Colley, Ph.D., an astrophysicist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He developed his algorithm to address the subjectivity and controversy surrounding BCS college football selection in the 1990s and early 2000s using a method that did not use subjective variables.
