ForbesNYT “Connections” Tips and Answers for October 22 (#499)

It's Wednesday and you know what that means: it's time for another round Connections!

It's actually a special occasion as this is the 500th game of Connections (without counting those Sports edition). I wonder if there will be anything interesting about the grid…

This is the last time I'll mention this for now, but I'm planning on starting a discussion group (probably on Discord). Connections and this column if enough of you are interested. If so, let me know via email, direct message on Twitter, or in the comments below. Thank you to those of you who have already contacted us! I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Today NYT Connections Hints and answers for Wednesday, October 23rd will follow soon.

How to play connections

Connections is a free, popular one New York Times daily pun. You will receive a new puzzle every day at midnight. You can play on that NYT Website or gaming app.

You will be presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to divide them into four groups of four by figuring out the connections between them. The groups can be items you can click on, names of research participants, or words preceded by a body part.

Each puzzle has only one solution, and you have to be careful when it comes to words that could fit into more than one category. You can mix up the words to perhaps better see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, blue and green are in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult. The purple group often contains puns.

Select four words that you think go together and click Send. If you guess and are wrong, you lose a life. When you're close to finding the right group, you may see a message saying you're one word away from the right group, but you still need to figure out which word to swap.

If you make four mistakes, the game is over. Let's make sure that this doesn't happen with the help of some tips, and if you really find it difficult, even with today's ones Connections Answer. Like with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

I had a strong suspicion that something unusual was going to happen with today's game since it's the 500th edition. I was a little disappointed when I first saw the grid, but once I figured out what was going on, a wry smile crept onto my face – even if it meant I would have a hard time finding clues.

Neither the sky nor blueberries are technically blue. That's why I'm glad I found a way to make the purple clue a little trickier. (I spent more time than I should have making sure that gold is actually yellow.)

I figured everything out before submitting groups. In this way I managed to achieve what I consider a truly perfect game: I got the purples, blues, greens and yellows in that order without any mistakes. I don't remember ever having done this before, so I was pretty pleased.

There are a few red herrings that almost tripped me up. The green jacket and blue beret almost got me. But by writing down my estimate for each group, I don't use Google while playing Connectionsbut I allow myself a notebook – I could see how everything fits together.

That's all for today Connections Hints and answers. Be sure to check out my blog for tips and the walkthrough for Thursday's game if you need them.

PS: I'm skipping the horror theme for today so I can include this song. An absolute classic:
