Jaime Lannister became king of Westeros in George RR Martin's original Game of Thrones plan, killing Sansa Stark and Joffrey Baratheon's son

Jaime Lannister is known as the “Kingslayer.” game of Thronesbut he would have killed as King if George RR Martin had stuck to his original plan A song of ice and fire. Jaime is one of the most complicated and fascinating characters in both the books and the TV show (in which he was played brilliantly by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). game of Thrones' pour). In fact, few characters undergo such a transformation as he does, and there are hidden layers to his backstory that few would have suspected at the outset.

Of course, things were marred by his controversies game of Thrones ended where he died alongside his sister Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). But it's his beginning that's more interesting. In 1993, Martin had a master plan for A song of ice and fireand provided a structure for what was then intended to be a trilogy of books. In it, Jaime was a key player: a murderer, a villain, and the man who would become king, even if that meant killing everyone who stood in his way.

What happened to Jaime Lannister in George RR Martin's ASOIAF overview

Who else did he kill to become king?

Martin's original plan for A song of ice and fire was structured around three overarching storylines that would form the three books he intended to write:

  1. A Game of Thrones would focus on the war between the Starks and the Lannisters.
  2. A dance with dragons Then the story would focus on Daenerys Targaryen's invasion of Westeros.
  3. The winds of winter would bring everything together with a final stand against the real threat from the far north, the Others, also known as the White Walkers.

At this point it is the vision for A Game of Thrones that Martin has developed the most and where his plans for Jaime really matter. As in the finished novel and game of Thrones Season 1: Joffrey Baratheon becomes king after Robert Baratheon's supposed accidental death. However, when Joffrey is killed by Tyrion, Jaime takes the throne and kills everyone who stands in his way. Martin wrote:

“Tyrion Lannister will continue to travel, plot and play the Game of Thrones, eventually removing his nephew Joffrey out of disgust at the young king's brutality.
Jaime Lannister will succeed Joffrey to the throne of the Seven Kingdoms
by the simple means of killing everyone in line to the throne before him and blaming his brother Tyrion for the murders.”

The big question in this version of the story is who did Jaime kill? The only clear answer is Joffrey and Sansa Stark's son, with the sketch revealing that not only did they get married, but they also had a baby together who was the heir to the Iron Throne. If Jaime were to remove those who came before him in the line of succession, then he would absolutely have to kill that boy. However, Martin suggests that Jaime killed several people, so that's probably not all.

It's possible that Jaime killed Joffrey himself and blamed Tyrion for it…

It's possible that Jaime killed Joffrey himself and blamed Tyrion for it (interestingly, Tyrion was blamed for Joffrey's death). did Make it the story of A storm of swordsAnd game of Thrones Season 4, years later). Joffrey's younger siblings Tommen and Myrcella are not mentioned, but it is plausible that they existed and Jaime killed them too (at this point there is no mention of Jaime being her real father). Similar, It's very likely that Jaime killed Stannis and Renly Baratheon as well as.

All of the kings in Game of Thrones and the new rulers introduced in House of the Dragon show how controversial a position on the Iron Throne can be.

Although not in line to the throne, It also seems like Jaime killed Robb Starkor at least played a key role in his defeat, as the war between the Lannisters and the Starks was a big part of it and Ned was killed like in the final version.

“Robb will win several great victories and maim Joffrey Baratheon on the battlefield, but in the end he will be no match for Jaime and Tyrion Lannister and their allies. Robb Stark will die in battle and Tyrion Lannister will besiege and burn Winterfell.”

Why did George RR Martin's plan change?

Martin isn't much of a planner

Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) holds a sword in the first season of Game of Thrones

Martin's vision has obviously changed a lot over the years and the story became larger than he imagined. The main reason for this is the author's writing style and the fact that he doesn't plan too much in advance, but rather has a broad idea and then sees where the story and characters take him as he writes. As he described it The Guardian in 2011 he is “Much more of a gardener than an architect.”

So much of it The story surrounding the battle for the Iron Throne expanded and developed beyond Stark vs. Lannister into the War of the Five Kingswhich is not mentioned in Martin's outline. Jaime, on the other hand, develops into a more multifaceted character with an arc of tragedy and redemption, and so it wouldn't have made as much sense to make him a ruthless king.

Game Of Thrones is showing signs of the plan for Jaime to become king

There are subtle hints in the book and the show

Jaime obviously doesn't become king, but there are still a few signs and snatches of that story visible A Game of Thrones and then game of Thrones Season 1. This Jaime is a much more ruthless version, portrayed as one of the main villains from the start when he pushes Bran Stark off the tower. He is a main antagonist of Ned Stark, facing him in King's Landing and later also fighting Robb, although he obviously does not defeat him. Regardless of what happened to Jaime, it's not that hard to imagine the early version sticking closer to the basics.

Martin plans to write two more books
A song of ice and fire
Series:
The winds of winter
And
A dream of spring
.

There are other subtle clues too. Ned remembers watching Jaime sit on the Iron Throne after killing King Aerys II Targaryen during Robert's Rebellion, which may have been a foreshadowing. Jaime is also said to look exactly how a king should be, as Jon Snow thought in the first book. In the book, Jaime is also controversially appointed Overseer of the East, despite already being in line to be appointed Overseer of the West after Tywin Lannister. These two positions would have given him a lot of political influence and military power, so he could have staged a play to become king.

Her appointment as queen reflected the plan for King Jaime

It is not clear whether Cersei existed when Martin created his initial structure for the book. However, since Bran's coma is mentioned, it's a reasonable assumption that it was there but became more prominent as the story progressed. And what feels remarkable about it – both in the books and even more so in the series – is how she took on the worst traits that were originally Jaime's character.

Game of Thrones has seen some great magicians, swordsmen and politicians alike. But who are the most powerful characters in the series?

She becomes much more involved in the wars that are unfolding, becoming more and more hungry for power and will do absolutely anything to conquer and keep it. That, in game of Thronesactually leads to her becoming queen. This is a little less likely in the books, as Cersei is neither as smart nor as important to the overall story.

It's hard to imagine that the conflict between her and Daenerys will be the final conflict, as the young Griff, rumored to be Aegon Targaryen (son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell), is poised to take the Iron Throne before Dany arrives in Westeros . Still, parts of Jaime exist in Cersei, showing how Martin's original vision remains intact throughout A song of ice and fire and in game of Thrones.
