A German sexual health brand, Billy Boy, has launched a unique product to combat non-consensual shots during intimate moments. This app, called CAMDOM, acts as a “digital condom” that prevents smartphones from making audio or video recordings during sex, promising protection against unauthorized recordings. With the slogan “As easy as using a real condom,” the product has sparked discussion on social media, with mixed reactions ranging from humor to concern about the app's necessity. Some social media users joked with comments like: “Wait a minute baby, it's updating” and “Finally a safe precaution for phone sex. “I need to protect myself from the 'I love you' virus.” Others were taken aback and wrote: “Is this for phone sex?” and “WTF is a digital condom? You're crazy about technological innovation now.” Reactions ranged from surprise to sadness, with one user commenting: “It's sad that this is necessary in our society.”

Developed in collaboration with Innocean Berlin, the app's developers, including Felipe Almeida, shared that smartphones are now inextricably linked to people's lives and store huge amounts of sensitive data. “To protect you from recording non-consensual content, we developed the first app that can easily block your camera and microphone via Bluetooth,” Almeida explained.

The app's functionality is straightforward: Before intimate activities, both users place their smartphones nearby and swipe a virtual button to block all cameras and microphones. When a phone attempts to unlock, an alarm sounds warning of a possible consent violation. “It can block as many devices as necessary at the same time,” the company added.

Gabriel, CCO of Innocean Berlin, emphasized the social responsibility behind the creation of CAMDOM: “At Innocean Berlin, we are about solving problems not only for our customers, but also for society as a whole. That’s why it was important for us to develop this app together with Billy Boy to protect users from non-consensual content sharing.”

With the release of CAMDOM, Billy Boy and Innocean Berlin aim to integrate technology in a way that redefines privacy protection in a modern, digital age.
