Serie A leaders Napoli need a late goal to beat Lecce 1-0

Associated Press

ROME (AP) — Serie A leaders Napoli needed a late goal from captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo to secure a 1-0 win at home against Lecce on Saturday.

Di Lorenzo, whose earlier goal had been disallowed by VAR, finished from close range after Scott McTominay's rebounded header.

Antonio Conte's Napoli are five points clear of defending champions Inter Milan, who host rivals Juventus on Sunday.

Lecce remained one point ahead of last-placed Venezia.

Later, Atalanta hosted Hellas Verona, while AC Milan's match at Bologna was postponed due to severe flooding in Bologna.

Di Lorenzo's goal came a minute after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia came on.

It was Napoli's fourth win in a row. The 2023 champion has not lost since losing the season opener in Hellas Verona in August.

Napoli are not playing in Europe after finishing 10th in Serie A last season. Milan will next visit Naples on Tuesday.
