Labor MP Mike Amesbury says he was involved in Cheshire 'incident' that left him 'feeling threatened' | British News

A Labor MP said he was involved in an incident where he “felt threatened” and was co-operating with police.

Mike Amesbury, the MP for Runcorn and Helsby, said he felt “threatened on the street after going out with friends” in Cheshire on Friday evening.

“This morning I contacted Cheshire Police myself to report what happened in this incident,” he added.

“I will not be making any further public comment but will of course co-operate with any inquiries if requested by Cheshire Police.”

“I remain fully committed to working hard for the people of Runcorn and Helsby and am determined to remain an open and accessible MP for our community.”

Video of the incident appears to show Mr Amesbury standing over a man lying on the ground in Frodsham.

The deputy tells the man, “You will never threaten me again,” while pointing at him, before saying, “Yes, that’s me.” [the MP]yes, I am, and you will never threaten the deputy again, will you?”

Cheshire Police said officers were called at 2.48am to reports of an attack in Frodsham.

“A caller reported that he was attacked by a man on Main Street. The investigation is ongoing.”

The Labor Party added it was aware of the incident and said Mr Amesbury would co-operate “with any investigation” by police.
