Albany man arrested on drug charges following drug investigation

An Albany man was arrested Monday on drug possession charges following a drug investigation, authorities said.

According to a news release, members of the Albany County Sheriff's Office Community Oriented Policing Effort were investigating the area of ​​Broad Street and Schuyler Street in Albany at approximately 12:32 p.m. that day. There, authorities said they found 31-year-old Charles B. McCormick III in possession of about 5 grams of cocaine, 3 grams of fentanyl and 1.7 grams of counterfeit M30 oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl. According to the Albany County Sheriff's Office, McCormick also possessed numerous glassine envelopes used for custom packaging and sales of narcotics.

McCormick was taken into custody and charged with one count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of tampering with evidence, one count of second-degree criminal drug paraphernalia and one count of second-degree obstructing governmental administration.

Authorities said he was taken to the Albany County Correctional Facility as an inmate and was arraigned Tuesday in Albany City Criminal Court. According to court records, McCormick pleaded not guilty, was released and is due back in court on Nov. 14.
