Notre Dame vs. Navy live stream, where to watch, TV channel, odds, spread, prediction, selection

No. 12 Notre Dame and No. 24 Navy will face off for the Rip Miller Trophy on Saturday afternoon at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This is the third consecutive year that one of college football's most historic rivalries will be played at a neutral site.

Navy and Notre Dame played every year from 1927 to 2019, making it the longest continuous non-conference series in college football, but that series was interrupted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notre Dame, which is 80-13-1 all-time in 96 meetings (not counting missed contests), has largely dominated the rivalry. The Midshipmen have won just one against the Fighting Irish in the last 10 years and have won four since the turn of the century.

Navy triumphed 35-17 in 2010, the last time this game was played in East Rutherford. This is also only the third time in the last 67 seasons that the two have met as ranked teams. Notre Dame leads the all-time series at 7-2-1 when both teams are in the AP Top 25.

While this game may not count toward conference standings, it will have significant implications for the College Football Playoff race beyond the traditional bragging rights that come with defeating top contenders. According to DraftKings, Notre Dame is a -250 bet to make the CFP. Navy checks in at +1500 on the sports betting app.

Notre Dame vs. Navy: What you need to know

Biggest game in a long time: When Notre Dame and Navy take the field on Saturday, there will be much more than just rivalry pride at stake. At 12-1, the Midshipmen and Fighting Irish have their best combined record in a meeting since 1945, when both teams were 5-0. That ended in a 6-6 draw. Navy is seeking its first 7-0 start since 1978, while Notre Dame has a chance to win six straight games for the first time under Marcus Freeman. Additionally, Navy has not beaten multiple ranked teams in the same season since 1958.

Notre Dame takes the teams to task: Notre Dame clearly put its shocking loss to Northern Illinois in the background. Since then, the Fighting Irish have won each of their five games, snapping the longest winning streak of the Freeman era, and doing so in largely dominant fashion. Notre Dame is allowing just 10.8 points per game during that span, leading the FBS. The Irish also boast a point differential of 30.2 per game in their favor. They have won their last two games by a combined score of 80-20 and three of their last four wins have come by at least 25 points.

Notre Dame's success is even more impressive considering the litany of serious injuries the Irish have suffered. They lost two starting offensive players (tackle Charles Jagusah and center Ashton Craig), two starting defensive players (Jordan Botelho and Boubacar Traore) and their best cornerback in Benjamin Morrison.

The Navy's offensive shows the way: Navy offensive coordinator Drew Cronic has led one of the most impressive turnarounds in the country, and that's a big reason why the Midshipmen are headed for their best season in recent memory. Navy leads the American Athletic Conference with 44.8 points per game, an increase of 27.1 points from last season. As things stand, this is the largest annual point increase by an FBS team this century. The Midshipmen have scored at least 34 points in every game and their six straight games with more than 30 points are the most for the program since 2010.

Quarterback Blake Horvath was a revelation. Of course he does his job on the ground, but he also opened the Navy's air attack. He leads the FBS in passing efficiency (210.5) and yards per attempt (12.3, at least 50 attempts). He is also one of five FBS quarterbacks to score more than 10 rushing touchdowns this year, along with Notre Dame's Riley Leonard. He is also the first player since Jalen Hurts in 2019 to average more than 100 yards passing and rushing per game in six games.

Notre Dame vs Navy Prediction, Tips

Notre Dame has been dominant lately, so it makes a little sense that the line would be inflated. But Navy could be Notre Dame's biggest non-Middle American Conference test since its road game against Texas A&M in Week 1. The Midshipmen are real. The offense gets a lot of headlines, but their defense has also held each of their last three opponents under 10 points. Despite all the injuries, everything seems to be going well for Notre Dame on both sides of the ball. The betting favorite Irish is a smart choice to win, but this game will be a lot closer than Vegas seems to think. Selection: Navy +12.5
