Oregon vs Illinois live stream, where to watch, TV channel, football match odds, spread, prediction, picks

Oregon and Illinois will face off Saturday for the first time since 1995 and just the fourth time ever when the No. 1 Ducks host the No. 20 Illini in a high-stakes Big Ten battle on CBS. The Ducks are 7-0 for the first time since 2013 and just the seventh time in program history, while the Illini come into the game at 6-1 and already have three wins against ranked teams.

It will be the first time Illinois will face the No. 1 team in the country since it beat Ohio State 28-21 on the road in 2007. On the other hand, the game represents another opportunity for the Ducks to strengthen their hold on the No. 1 spot thanks to a win over Ohio State on Oct. 12.

Last week, Oregon handled the pressure with aplomb, defeating Purdue 35-0 on Friday night. Meanwhile, Illinois put together an impressive home performance against Michigan as the Illini forced three turnovers and didn't score a single one in a 21-7 win over the reigning national champions.

Illinois will likely need more turnover success to have a chance on the road against the betting favorite Ducks, who appear to have found their breakthrough under third-year coach Dan Lanning. After falling to No. 9 in the AP poll after uncomfortably close wins against Idaho and Boise State to open the season, Oregon has established itself as the class of college football.

Oregon vs. Illinois: What you need to know

Defensive swing: Oregon enters the game against Illinois with some defensive momentum after posting its first shutout since 2012 last week. Oregon held the Boilermakers to just 93 yards passing and 0 for 3 on fourth down conversion attempts just a week after Purdue scored 49 points in an overtime loss at Illinois. Oregon's success in stopping an offense that racked up 536 yards against the Illini bodes well heading into this matchup.

Illinois in pursuit of CFP: Illinois enters the College Football Playoff firmly into the final weekend of October, and a win over Oregon would boost the Illini's CFP hopes. While a loss wouldn't kill their chances, it would put the Illini in a tough spot heading into the final month of the season. To finish the season, Illinois would likely have to face Minnesota, Michigan State, Rutgers and Northwestern. Illinois will likely be the favorite in any of these games, but there would be no margin for error.

Running ducks: Oregon junior Jordan James ranks third in the Big Ten and 14th nationally with 717 rushing yards. He has averaged at least 5.1 yards per carry in all seven of Oregon's games this season and could be a key for the Ducks' offense will be Illinois. The Illini rank 70th nationally in rushing defense and gave up 239 yards on the ground in consecutive games against Penn State and Purdue. Look for Oregon to exploit some of these vulnerabilities, especially if they manage to generate a lead early.

Oregon vs. Illinois prediction, tips

Illinois enters this matchup with confidence after picking up three wins over ranked teams in its first seven games. The trip to face Oregon represents an increase in difficulty for the Fighting Illini, but they are able to keep their loss within that range. The Ducks have only posted such large numbers twice this season, and only once have they surpassed 40 points in a game. Illinois, with Luke Altmyer at quarterback, has enough offensive power to find the end zone at least once and keep the score within the betting line available on FanDuel. Pick: Illinois +21.5
