Utah State football star Jalen Royals has received a brutal injury update

Utah State football fans had little to cheer about in 2024. A bottomless defense continues to bury the team and put undue stress on the offense and fans alike. The only guarantee the city of Logan could count on was that it would be rewarded with a sensational performance from the Jalen Royals. But unfortunately, that will no longer be the case this year for the star wide receiver, the team and the entire Aggies community.

Royals will do it miss the rest of the season with a foot injury, according to ESPN's Pete Thamels. That's a big blow for a player who impressed NFL scouts through the first seven games of the season. Before Saturday's contest, he ranked fourth in the country with 834 yards and tied for sixth with 55 yards. Although his excellence is not related to the team's success, the Royals mean a lot to Utah State.

Surprisingly, the Jalen Royals stuck with Utah State football

After a 2023 season in which he rushed for over 1,000 total yards and scored a whopping 15 touchdowns (behind only then-LSU WR and current Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Brian Thomas Jr.), All-Mountain West first-team selection would be up can gain more in this prestigious program. Few people would have blamed him for trying to improve his NFL Draft profile and NIL earnings, but the Royals haven't entered the transfer portal.

The 21-year-old pledged his loyalty to an Aggies team that has gone 6-7 over the past two seasons and currently sits at a brutal 1-6. The Royals' commitment to Utah State football makes it even harder for fans to accept its setback.

The team is already in limbo, conceding the second-most points per game in the country (43.9). Without their best talent, what hope is there to get back in the win column? Saturday night's away game against Wyoming, initially a possible candidate to end the losing streak, will now present a much more difficult challenge.

However, one thing is certain. The Aggies and their fans will be thinking about the Jalen Royals when they enter War Memorial Stadium.
