HOUSTON — More than 1.5 million people have signed up to attend Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign rally in Houston this Friday, according to the registration website.

Two hours before the event, thousands lined up outside Shell Energy Stadium and around the parking lot.

The heat in Texas made it difficult for potential participants. Emergency services responded to the scene and the latest reports indicate that eight people were transported to nearby hospitals. Dozens more have independently reported heat-related problems.

Cooling buses were on site and helped the people who were out of breath.

KPRC 2 captured video outside the stadium that showed Houston police handing out cold water bottles.

KPRC 2 has reached out to Houston police regarding crowd and traffic control.
