Wanted man arrested after hiding in Colorado Springs hotel room

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A wanted man is in custody after a brief standoff at a hotel in south Colorado Springs.

According to police, the situation began a day earlier when they attempted to stop the suspect they had seen driving in the area of Templeton Gap and Union around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. The driver sped off and officers decided not to follow him because the suspect was driving recklessly.

“Officers concluded that continuing to pursue the vehicle at this time would pose risks to the public,” a CSPD lieutenant said.

A little more than 24 hours later, an officer spotted a familiar-looking car at a hotel at Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard and Venetucci.

“Gold Hill officers determined that the suspect was staying at a hotel in that area,” the lieutenant said.

When the suspect realized officers had found him, he locked himself in his room and refused to come out.

“The suspect briefly barricaded himself in his hotel room before officers were able to persuade him to surrender peacefully,” the lieutenant said.

The man was taken into custody on multiple existing warrants – as well as new felony charges stemming from his alleged escape from police on Tuesday. He was identified as Alex Pickruhn.
