Ron DeSantis is fighting Goliath in the abortion rights debate, a supporter says

In the fight for abortion rights in Florida, Gov Ron DeSantis “The underdog David is fighting Goliath,” said a doctor who supported his efforts this week.

DeSantis is in action millions of dollars worth of government funding to try to defeat Amendment 4, which aims to enshrine the right to abortion in the state constitution.

Be The administration's lawyers wrote cease-and-desist letters Threatening television stations for playing pro-Amendment 4 ads which led to a lawsuit in federal court.

That comes after that The state agency's website began an open campaign against Amendment 4, and election police have knocked on the doors of some people who signed the Amendment 4 petition to investigate suspected petition fraud.

Floridians protect freedomthe caucus pushing Amendment 4 collected nearly a million petitions to put abortion rights on the ballot and did so around $90 million was raised So far there have been neither small grassroots fundraisers nor donations in the millions.

DeSantis' recent efforts to fight Amendment 4 see him travel across the state with Florida Physicians Against Amendment 4. DeSantis did not answer press questions as he joined a group of doctors in Winter Garden Tuesday afternoon who expressed concerns about the amendment.

“He has been traveling across the state trying to educate our communities about the terrible consequences for our women, our families and our states if this amendment is added to our Florida Constitution,” said Dr. Ana Verdeja Pereza Plant City obstetrician and gynecologist, at a news conference this week alongside DeSantis.

“He exhausted every possible resource to stop the amendment, but the opposition was brutally defiant. It reminds me of the story of David and Goliath. Governor, you are the David of history.”

The Florida doctors oppose Amendment 4 argues that Amendment 4 is vague and will deregulate the abortion industry.

The proposed constitutional amendment would limit government intervention in abortion before it is profitable – which lasts about 24 weeks – or to save the mother's life.

“As a pro-life obstetrician and gynecologist, I will vote no. I also believe that my fellow Floridians will vote “no” because they do not support abortion without some form of restriction. The amendment is just a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” said Dr. Tamberly McCaruswho works in Central Florida. “It was intentionally written to deceive, and we in Florida don’t like being lied to.”
