Sanders and Hunter carry Colorado into the postseason with a 34-23 victory over Cincinnati

Colorado's triumph over Cincinnati on Saturday night was more than just another win – it marked a defining moment for Deion Sanders and his Buffaloes as they secured bowl eligibility with a 34-23 win. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders led the attack with a near-perfect performance, completing 25 of 30 passes for 323 yards and throwing two touchdowns to Travis Hunter, who had an outstanding performance of his own with nine receptions for 153 yards. The duo's synergy electrified Folsom Field, helping Colorado to its sixth win of the season and solidifying their shot at postseason play in just Sanders' second year with the program.

This victory, which gave the Buffaloes a 6-2 record, is a testament to Coach Sanders' transformative impact on a team that went 4-8 last season. Achieving bowl eligibility is a significant milestone for the Buffaloes, who last played a full season that resulted in a bowl game in 2016. Sanders acknowledged the momentous journey the team has taken and emphasized a shared direction and determination that continues to drive the team forward. After the game, he personally spoke on the phone with longtime Buffaloes fan Peggy Coppom, who is set to turn 100 next month, fulfilling his promise to invite her to a bowl game.

The intensity of the game reached its peak in the final minutes. Cincinnati had cut Colorado's lead to 31-23 with just under four minutes left, but the Buffaloes' defense stepped up. After a missed two-point conversion attempt by Cincinnati, Colorado responded with a 47-yard field goal from Alejandro Mata, extending its lead to 34-23 and effectively sealing the victory. In addition to the impressive performances from Sanders and Hunter, running back Isaiah Augustave contributed on the ground, reaching the end zone with a 7-yard run.

Deion Sanders remains cautious about the increased attention the Buffaloes are receiving, even though they have the potential to move into national elections. Despite their success, he humorously stated, “Please don't judge us…we'd rather be in the dark and chill.” Colorado's recent victories have also brought financial rewards to coach Sanders, who, according to his contract, receives bonuses for every win and every bowling eligibility – a testament to the trust the school in his leadership.

While the game showcased Colorado's strengths, it also highlighted opportunities for improvement, particularly with regards to the penalty kill. The Buffaloes were cited multiple times for unsportsmanlike conduct, including a costly call on Jimmy Horn Jr. that negated a first-quarter touchdown. Coach Sanders addressed fans after the game and urged them to maintain civility and avoid throwing anything on the field.

The Buffaloes are now 4-1 in the Big 12 and have a bye week before facing Texas Tech on November 9th. For Deion Sanders and his team, the win against Cincinnati is a stepping stone towards greater success and a greater potential chance at the Big 12 Conference Championship.
