Costco is recalling chicken and salmon products due to listeria concerns

Costco shoppers are being urged to check their groceries after several items were recalled due to listeria concerns. The recalled items included smoked salmon, two types of chicken dishes and frozen Belgian waffles.

Costco is recalling its Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon. Acme Smoked Fish Corp. The salmon delivered may have been contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.

In a press release Costco issued earlier this week, the warehouse said the decision to inform customers was made out of “an abundance of caution.” Customers are asked to look for Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon products purchased between October 9, 2024 and October 13, 2024 with lot number 8512801270.

Like the smoked salmon recall, chicken meal kits sold at Costco have also been recalled due to possible listeria contamination. This recall follows a larger recall initiated by BrucePac Foods, a supplier of poultry products.

The Costco recall involves Rana Chicken Truffle Carbonara and Tagliatelle Grilled White Chicken & Portabello Mushroom Sauce. Both products are made from BrucePac Foods chicken and the recall affects items sold in September and October.

For both meal kit and smoked salmon recalls, customers are asked not to consume the products and instead return them to Costco for a full refund.

Costco also sent out a letter this week about the Krusteaz Belgian Waffles recall. This brand of waffles purchased at Costco between Oct. 13 and Oct. 21 are being recalled because they are related to a larger recall of frozen waffles and pancakes announced earlier this week.

Given the troubling increase in recalls due to Listeria concerns, customers should be aware of the symptoms of a Listeria infection. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of the illness include fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, confusion and stiff neck. If you have an intestinal disease with listeria, you should pay attention to diarrhea and vomiting.
