IU basketball will be without three players for the Tennessee exhibition

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Indiana basketball players Trey Galloway, Jakai Newton and Bryson Tucker will sit out Saturday's charity event against Tennessee at Food City Center.

The No. 18 Hoosiers traveled to Knoxville on Sunday to take on the defending SEC regular season champions. Galloway, Newton and Tucker all arrived but were not dressed up for the game.

Indiana coach Mike Woodson told reporters Friday that both Galloway and Newton were questionable. The team was patient with the guards recovering from knee injuries.

More: “Mike Woodson is excited to see a new roster in the Tennessee exhibition.”

“We kind of brought them back slowly because it’s a long season,” Woodson said. “They haven't fully recovered yet, they might be able to tell you that. “That's why we're being very cautious in how we approach their practices because they're not fully ready yet.”

While they both took part in a recent scrimmage, Woodson was hesitant to throw them into a real game. They also did not participate in any of the basketball activities at Hoosier Hysteria.

“It's pretty hard to get them right into the game, let's play 25 to 30 minutes,” Woodson said.

Tucker, who was the team's only addition in the 2024 signing class, has received high praise from Woodson throughout the offseason. At Hoosier Hysteria, Woodson said Tucker didn't play like a freshman and he loved everything about him.

The 6-7, 207-pound small forward was a four-star signee from Bishop O'Connell High School in Virginia. He will likely provide depth upfront behind Mackenzie Mgbako and Luke Goode this season.
