Aaron Rodgers, Jets devastated by NFL fans after loss to Patriots, Maye out injured | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors

The calendar hasn't even reached November yet, but the New York Jets can probably start making offseason plans for January.

The Jets lost to the hapless New England Patriots 25-22 on Sunday in an improbable loss, leaving them 2-6 this season. The Patriots have the exact same record.

It seemed as if New York might snag an ugly win after Aaron Rodgers led the team with a pivotal, game-winning drive in the fourth quarter that culminated in Braelon Allen's two-yard touchdown plunge with 2:57 left.

But the defense couldn't hold from there as the Pats broke through them relatively easily, with Rhamondre Stevenson scoring a one-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal with just 22 seconds left, also converting the two-point attempt himself and The Jets were unable to get into field goal range before time expired.

Nothing Sunday offered much hope that New York — despite a collection of expensive talent on the roster — could turn its season around.

The team regularly struggled to make plays in a timely manner, leading to major timeouts and delay-of-game penalties, including one on a two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter that ultimately failed. Greg Zuerlein missed his sixth field of the season. The Jets didn't force a single turnover. A weapons-laden passing game largely sputtered, yielding 224 yards, although Rodgers scored two scores. The supposedly stout defense couldn't stop a passing game led by Jacoby Brissett and an array of receivers the average NFL fan has never heard of from driving down the field with the game on the line.

It was a fair game for fans and pundits watching the game, and they didn't miss a beat:

Just when you think the Jets can't reach a new low.
Greg tasted them in Denver, Bills, Pats.
This is a completely unacceptable embarrassment.
That's like Mark Sanchez running into Brandon Moore's ass in the loop.

The #Jets are as poorly coached as any other team in the NFL. I have no doubt that they practice, but you would never know it from watching them play.

The Jet Press @TheJetPress

We've seen some bad things #Jets Football teams over the years.
This one is special.
It takes a special collection of players/coaches to have that much talent and be that bad.
Really impressive stuff. Frankly, remarkable.

Of all my teams, I'm the most embarrassed to be one #Jets Fan, this team gives me no faith at all. I really feel like this team will suck forever.

The Patriots didn't even have starting quarterback Drake Maye in the second half, who was sidelined with a concussion. The Jets beat the same Patriots team 24-3 in Week 3, and that was before they had Davante Adams. It was also before they fired Robert Saleh.

And it was all completely avoidable. Zuerlein's miss and the game's inexplicable delay in converting the two-pointer were both sticking points. But both would have been moot if the Jets defense had been able to get a single stop to end the game.

Point your fingers where you want to go. At this point, identifying the Jets' problems is like throwing a dart at a board the size of the video screens in Times Square. No matter where you aim, you will end up at a pain point.
