Officials identify man who drowned after falling into Yahara River

MONONA, Wis. (WMTV) – Officials have identified the man who died after a vehicle plunged into the Yahara River early Monday morning.

The Dane County Coroner's Office announced Wednesday that 47-year-old Christopher Mosby died as a result of drowning. Officials pronounced the Fitchburg man dead at the scene Monday.

Officials said a forensic investigation was completed Monday and further tests are being conducted.

According to the Monona Fire Department, the vehicle was found upside down in the water around 1:10 a.m. on the 700 block of Pirate Island Road in Monona. Water rescue crews pulled the driver and vehicle out of a lagoon just off West Broadway.

Monona police said one of Monona's flock cameras showed the vehicle traveling on W. Broadway before it fell into the water.

Officers determined that no other vehicles were involved in the accident and there was no evidence of suspicious activity related to the accident.
