This is the exact day you should change Daylight Saving Time on your clock across the United States

We would all like to live in an endless summer, but the month of October comes and brings with it a return to winter time.

The time we assumed on the second Sunday in March ends on the first Sunday in November, bringing with it winter time.

Why is the time change?

The aim of the two annual time changes is to make optimal use of the daylight hours and thus benefit the economy. In the United States, most states have adopted this change.

Where in the United States the time does not change

However, five territories (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico) and two states (Arizona and Hawaii) decided not to adhere to this change, although if one of them ever wanted to adhere to this time change they must Adhere to the schedules set by the federal government and start and end on the prescribed dates

When will time change?

Daylight saving time remains fixed every year (it begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November). This year it took place on March 10th and ends on Sunday November 3rd. At 2 a.m., residents of the accession states must set their clocks back one hour to return to 1 a.m.

Do clocks go back or forward?

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) explains that the Standard Time Law (1918) was created to make the most of daylight and save energy.

This schedule was enacted by the Uniform Time Act of 1966 and was primarily intended to improve public transportation.

Is Daylight Saving Time Ending in the USA?

According to the Council of State Governments (a nonpartisan, non-profit organization), as of 2022, 19 states have passed or enacted laws allowing year-round observance of daylight saving time. If Congress or states in the region allow it, they would also approve the change make.

The states were Alabama, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

On the other hand, California residents voted for a ballot measure that would make daylight saving time permanent, but lawmakers have not yet acted.

Which time is better, winter or summer?

The arguments against a time change or against one or the other are diverse. Proponents of extending daylight saving time include shops and various companies, as well as those dedicated to “green” activities, such as: horticulture, lawn sports clubs such as golf, baseball and tennis as they would greatly benefit from this extra hour of sunlight.

Opponents of daylight saving time, however, point to possible negative health effects, with estimates suggesting an increase in strokes, heart attacks and lack of sleep.

The state government council explained that in 2020, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) advocated the introduction of a uniform daylight saving time throughout the year.

For us it is clear that for now, unless we live in one of the territories that have not signed this proposal, we will have to get used to turning the clock forward and back in May and November and be careful, especially on the first day, not to be late for agreed appointments.

Fortunately, we will most likely save ourselves the time change on our smartphones and they will change themselves!
