A man's shocking letter to his wife is going viral – and you'll never guess how it ends

A woman admitted she was “nervous” after receiving an unexpected letter from her husband – and the letter is now going viral on social media.

“You could have guessed how this letter would end a million times and I still wouldn't have seen it coming,” one person said of the letter, which was shared with X on Tuesday.

Joyy, who goes by @JoyyUnSpeakable on the site, has garnered 32.4 million views on correspondence written by her husband Fred.

“To my wife,” the envelope containing the mysterious letter read.

“Ladies…take your pick. I woke up to this nonsense after almost 11 years of marriage,” she captioned the post.

Fred began the letter with a disclaimer, writing, “Dear wife, let me start by telling you that I love you with all my heart.”

“You mean the world to me. However, I owe it to myself and you to be completely honest with you,” he wrote. “I need to come forward with my truth. I hate to do it this way, but it’s now or never because what I’m about to say needs to be said.”

“Tonight, October 22, 2024, is opening night for the New York Knicks’ 24-25 season,” he stated. @joyyunspeakable/Instagram

After reading the nerve-wracking first paragraph, many on social media assumed Fred would admit to cheating – but what he shared was completely different.

“Tonight, October 22, 2024, marks opening night of the New York Knicks’ 24-25 season,” he stated. “I’m going to watch the game tonight.”

Fred went on to say that he “will not be a husband or a father” from 7 p.m. until the end of the game.

“You’ll all be alone for a few hours,” he explained.

During this time, Fred said he would not watch their shows with his wife, walk the dog, or put their child to bed.

“I'm going to sit on my couch, have a drink and watch the game. This is it,” he said.

“That doesn’t mean I love you any less. It just means tonight isn't about you. “It’s about ruining the Boston Celtics ring ceremony,” he said.

“The rest of the season is negotiable until we reach the playoffs. Then I’ll have to temporarily abandon you all again.”

He ended the letter by saying that if his wife had any questions, she could call him and discuss them – but only after the game.

After reading her husband's formal letter, Joy wrote to him, “I gave you almost 12 years of my life just for you to leave me a letter like that???” to which he replied, “I had to be true to myself! !! Even if it hurt.”

Joy also shared in response to her original post that her husband actually watched the game – but he didn't give up his role as a father or husband.

“He picked up food and ice cream on the way home from work. I sit on the couch and talk to him while the game is playing. I hope he doesn't leave me,” she joked, sharing a video of her and her son watching the game with Fred.

People in the comments were shocked at the contents of the letter.

“I’m not going to lie, I did NOT expect this, it convinced me in the first half,” wrote one. “Kudos to you both for having a fun marriage and having fun together. But you have to get him back and get us a part 2!”

“This is GOLD! I would have given him beer and chips straight away,” replied another.

“Girl you scared me,” said a third. “Oh my God, I thought he was going to divorce you with a handwritten letter.”
