New WICKED promo highlights the magic of Oz

A new Wicked promotional video has just been released, highlighting the magic contained in both the upcoming film's themes and world. The video includes excerpts from interviews with film stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey, as well as director Jon M. Chu.

“The things you think are impossible, the things you dreamed of, are not impossible at all,” Cynthia Erivo says in the video. “The film is about harnessing the power that… [Elphaba] and figuring out how she can use that to do the good she needs.” Grande adds that this theme is “the most magical part of the whole thing.”

The promo also features new footage from the film, including some new moments of Galinda with her wand and a closer look at several creatures, including flying monkeys, animal professors and the animal band in the Ozdust Ballroom.

The film adaptation “Wicked” stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. They are joined by Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard.

Marissa Bode will portray Nessarose, Elphaba's younger sister. The characters also include Pfannee and ShenShen, two devious compatriots of Glinda, played by Emmy nominees Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots), as well as a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman). Aaron Teoh joins as Avaric, Michael Carmichael as Nikidik. Emmy winner Peter Dinklage will star in the film Dr. Play Dillamond.
